Ruben Amaro Jr. is the new Phillies GM

With the presidential election now over, I can finally focus on some developments that played out during that time. As Barack Obama shattered ceilings and broke down barriers, another multiracial man did the same in baseball. Ruben Amaro Jr., the once bat boy for the Philadelphia Phillies, is now their General Manager. Amaro Jr. is of Cuban and Mexican descent by way of his father and Jewish through his mother.

Amaro Jr. not foreign to the game as he played in the majors from 1991-1998. He joined the Phillies front office after his playing career ended. Pat Gillick stepped down after the season and it wasn't a mystery as to who would be his replacement. Amaro Jr. had been an assistant GM for the last ten years and was well groomed for the job. He will have a tough act to follow since they are fresh off winning the World Series.
